Tofu and Mushrooms in Chilli Basil sauce

This Stir-Fry Mushrooms & Tofu with Spicy Chili Basil Sauce is a quick, easy, and beginner-friendly dish that’s packed with bold flavors!

INGREDIENTS

Firm Tofu - 300g

Swiss Brown mushrooms - 200g

Cooking Oil - 1/4 cup

Garlic - 5 cloves

Birdseye Chillis - 5 or to taste

Light Soy Sauce - 1.5 tbsp

Sweet Soy Sauce - 1 tbsp

Vegetarian Oyster Sauce - 1 tbsp

Green Basil - 1 bunch

Ingredients - Tofu, mushrooms, green basil, chillis, garlic, sweet soy sauce, light soy sauce, and oyster sauce

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare the ingredients:

  • Finely chop 5 cloves of garlic

  • Finely chop 5 Birdseye chillis (or to taste)

  • Remove leave from one bunch of green basil (or Thai Basil)

Preparing the Tofu

  • Pat dry some firm tofu (300g) with a kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess water

  • Cut tofu into small bite-sized pieces

  • Heat about 1/4 cup of cooking oil in a wok, and fry the tofu until golden. This takes about 3-4 minutes. Fry them in two batches to avoid overcrowding the wok.

  • Take the tofu out of the pan and leave it aside

Putting everything together:

  • Remove the leftover oil from the wok, leaving only about 3-4 tbsp of oil

  • Sauté garlic, and chillis for about 2 minutes

  • Add tofu and stir-fry for 1 minute

  • Add 1.5 tbsp of light soy sauce, 1 tbsp of sweet soy sauce, and 1 tbsp of vegetarian oyster sauce. You can adjust the taste to your liking. Stir to coat the tofu with the flavorful sauce.

  • Then add the mushrooms and continue to stir-fry for 2 minutes

  • When mushrooms are cooked, add the basil leaves

  • Give it a quick toss, and we’re done!
